About
How this works, and what it isn’t
Know Yuh Law is an independent project that rewrites Jamaican Acts in plain language, and shows you exactly which sections each explanation rests on.
Why this exists
Jamaica’s laws are public, but they’re written in legal language that most people never get taught to read. That gap is exactly where people get taken advantage of — by a landlord, an employer, or anyone who counts on you not knowing the actual rule.
This site takes the real Acts and explains them the way you’d explain something to a ten-year-old, so everyday people can know what the law actually says.
This is not legal advice
Nothing here is a substitute for reading the actual Act or talking to a lawyer. Summaries are written to help you understand the shape of a law, not to cover every exception, every recent amendment, or your specific situation.
If something here matters to a real decision you’re making, verify it against the source and get real legal advice.
Where the text comes from
Every Act on this site is sourced from laws.moj.gov.jm, the Ministry of Justice & Constitutional Affairs’ official Laws of Jamaica portal. That site itself notes its online versions are for information only and carry no official legal status — the same caveat applies here, one layer further removed.
This project is independent and not affiliated with the Government of Jamaica.
How a summary gets made
Nothing is auto-published. Each explained Act is written by reading the actual PDF text section by section, then checked back against it before it goes live.
Every published page cites the specific sections it’s drawn from and shows the date it was last checked, so you can see if it might be stale.
97 of 669 Acts are explained so far. The rest are listed with their real title and a direct link to the official PDF while they’re being worked on — nothing is left unlabeled or implied to exist when it doesn’t.
Found a mistake?
Laws change, and summaries can go stale or get something wrong. If you spot an error, please don’t rely on the page until it’s fixed — check the official PDF linked on every Act page instead.
